Honing our listening and colour recognition skills

This week the children have been practicing their listening skills. This is an important skill that the children must learn in order to distinguish the phonic sounds that build up words and eventually enable them to read and write. We went on a sound hunt listening for different kinds of sounds that we can hear in our environment, then using tapping sticks to make our own sounds on different surfaces. We were also learning to recognise colours, as well as categorise various objects according to their colour. This new vocabulary will help them in both Literacy and Maths. We have also been exploring and discussing self-awareness, who we really are, how do we look, and what do we like, through songs, stories and conversation.
